Shipping Information

Plants are shipped at the proper planting time

We will ship your plants at the proper planting time for your area. We start shipping weekly beginning with our customers in the warmest regions at the beginning of April. Orders are shipped every week from then on until the end of May.

Please note that UPS does not heat their transport trucks. This may mean that we have to delay shipping if our nightly temperatures here in Northern Michigan dip below 32 degrees.   Conversely if the weather is too hot the plants can spoil. If you order is delayed due to unusually hot or cold conditions know that we will ship your order as soon as the weather permits.

We ship according to your garden zone.

You may request your plants to be shipped at a different time.

You may request that your plants be delivered at a time other than the one scheduled.

Custom Packaging Makes for Safe Travels for your Plants

Our custom packaging carefully cradles and protects each plant during shipping. The pot and the bottom of each plant is first placed inside a plastic bag to retain moisture and prevent leaking of water and soil. Each pot is then securely loaded into our custom designed inserts which keep the plants in place and prevents damage during shipment. The inserts are then loaded into shipping box. Each box holds a maximum of 12 plants. Up to 4 boxes (48 plants) can be bundled together for a shipment. Orders over 48 plants are divided into multiple shipments.

Fast shipment ensures quality plants

All of the plants you receive are live plants growing in a large 4" pot. We do not ship seeds, bare root stock or bulbs. Live plants can not travel boxed up for more than three days without losing quality.  All orders are grown and shipped from our greenhouses in northern Michigan. Orders that UPS can deliver within 3 days or less will be shipped UPS Ground. Orders that take UPS more than 3 days to deliver will be shipped UPS 3-Day Select.

Orders will be delivered to your door, you don't need to sign for them. Note that UPS cannot deliver to P.O. Boxes.

All orders are shipped out at the beginning of the week to make sure that they arrive to you by Friday of that week and are not sitting in a UPS truck or warehouse over the weekend.

USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map

MAP ZONE LINK

The 2023 updated USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map is the standard by which gardeners and growers can determine which plants are most likely to thrive at a location. The map is based on the average annual minimum winter temperature, divided into 10-degree F zones and further divided into 5-degree F half-zones.

No posters of the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map have been printed, but state, regional, and national images of the map can be downloaded and printed in a variety of sizes and resolutions from the Map Downloads page. See the Print Quality Maps page to download high resolution files.
